What it’s like
Free ceramics museum in Stoke-on-Trent with two centuries of pottery history and a café, open weekday mornings and early afternoons.
This one's about the pottery, and specifically the story of one Stoke-on-Trent firm that's been making it since Victorian times. It's free to get in, which makes it an easy add to a day out if you're already in the area and fancy something indoors for an hour.
The ground floor is fully accessible, which covers most of what's on show, but the first floor isn't reachable by wheelchair or if stairs are a struggle. They've put together an album of what's up there so you're not missing out entirely, which is a decent workaround rather than a proper fix.
There's a café on site if you want to break the visit up with a drink, and an accessible toilet too. The catch is the hours: Monday to Friday, 10am to 3pm only, so this isn't a weekend or evening option and you'll want to plan around the school run rather than after it.
It won't take you all day, more of a focused hour than an afternoon out, but for a free, quiet look at a slice of local industrial history it does the job without asking much of you.
