What it’s like

Kids' art groups for 6 to 12 year olds, plus pottery, textiles and crochet workshops, some tutored and some not.

For children's art, the centre runs painting and drawing workshops for 6 to 12 year olds, taught by a qualified art teacher. Collage from torn paper, watercolour, straight drawing. Pottery groups cover sculpture, moulding, slab and thrown work, and there are three potters' wheels plus moulds, slips, oxides and glazes. Textiles and crochet workshops fill out the rest.

Booking is by email, and several workshops are already sold out. Some sessions take only five places, so it goes quickly. A few of the pottery groups have no formal teaching, which suits confident kids and frustrates beginners. The pottery waiting list is closed because of how many people are on it, with no sign of it opening before August 2026.

Prices sit around £15 for members and £18 for non-members on the workshops the site quotes. Some sessions are tutored with named teachers, while the portrait and life drawing ones run untutored.

Weekday mornings and afternoons cover most of the timetable, with Monday and Tuesday evenings going until 10pm. Wednesday afternoon is the only Wednesday slot. Ages run from 6 to 12, and you don't have to be a member to book a place.

6 to 12. The painting workshop is pitched at that whole range, run by a qualified art teacher.

How much is a workshop?

The site quotes £15 for members and £18 for non-members on one of them, so expect a bit more if you're not a member. Non-members can book.

How do I book a place?

By email, and some workshops also have a booking link on the page. Several sell out, and a few take only five people.

Can we get into a pottery group?

Not at the moment. The waiting list is closed because of how many people are already on it, and it's noted as re-opening around August 2026.

Are the workshops taught?

Some are, with named tutors, and others aren't. The portrait and life drawing sessions are untutored, and the pottery groups have no formal teaching.

When do sessions run?

Mornings and afternoons on weekdays, with Monday and Tuesday evenings until 10pm. Wednesday only has a 1pm to 4pm slot.

Do we need to be a member?

No. Workshops are open to non-members, usually at a slightly higher price.
