What it’s like
Paint your own pottery or ceramics, then try a shrink plastic cat head workshop or calligraphy on an agate plate.
This one's built around sitting down and making something rather than running about. The main activity is painting your own pottery or ceramics, which is the sort of task that'll happily eat an hour with a seven-year-old who takes it seriously, or about ten minutes with a toddler who just wants to lick the brush.
Beyond that there's a proper little run of workshops: shrink plastic cat head accessories, calligraphy, and agate plate decoration. The cat head shrink plastic one is the obvious pull if you've got a kid who's into cats or anything mildly kawaii, and it's different enough from standard pottery painting to be worth doing alongside it rather than instead of it. There's also craft card personalisation on offer, with the supplies and stickers provided, which is a gentler option if you've got a younger one who wants to feel like they've made something without the pressure of a paintbrush and a kiln deadline.
It's open most of the week, 11am to 5:30pm Monday, Wednesday to Saturday, and a slightly shorter Sunday from 11 to 4:30. Tuesday it's shut, which is worth remembering if that's your usual free afternoon.
Because the whole thing is craft-led rather than play-led, it suits kids who can sit and concentrate for a bit rather than under-threes who need to move. Bring a top you don't mind getting paint on, since that bit isn't really covered here.
Plan your visit
What can kids actually do there?
Paint your own pottery or ceramics, or join a workshop making shrink plastic cat head accessories, calligraphy or agate plate decoration. There's also craft card personalisation with supplies and stickers provided.
What are the opening hours?
11am to 5:30pm on Monday and Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 4:30pm on Sunday. Closed on Tuesdays.
Do we need to book ahead?
That's not something they list, so it's probably worth giving them a ring or turning up and asking on the day.
Is it suited to younger children?
It leans towards sitting still and concentrating, so it works best for kids old enough to focus on painting or a craft workshop rather than very young toddlers.
