Cart Gap Beach
WHERE
North Walsham
What it’s like
A sandy stretch by the lifeboat station near North Walsham, good for a swim, a walk and dogs off the lead.
There's no big attraction pulling you here, just a proper sandy beach for swimming, paddling and long walks, with the sea air doing most of the work. It's open all the time, so an early low-tide walk before the crowds arrive is easy enough to plan around.
Dogs are allowed on the beach, which makes this an obvious pick if you're bringing one along with the kids, and there's not much fuss about where you can go. Smallsticks Café by the car park does hot and cold drinks along with snacks and meals, so you're not relying on a packed lunch if the weather turns nice and you end up staying longer than planned.
The car park by the lifeboat station is pay and display, and it's on the pricier side, which stings a bit for what's essentially a patch of tarmac by the sand. Campervans aren't allowed in, so if that's how you travel you'll need to find somewhere else to leave it. Toilets are on site, which takes the edge off a longer visit with small children.
