What it’s like
River cruises and day boat hire on the Norfolk Broads, with themed trips like Halloween and Santa cruises through the year.
The main thing here is getting out on the water. You can book onto a river cruise and let someone else do the steering while you watch for herons and marsh harriers along the Broads, or hire a day boat and take the wheel yourselves if you fancy being in charge for the afternoon. Either way it's a slower sort of day out, more about the scenery drifting past than anything fast-paced.
They run themed trips through the year too, which is a nice touch if you time it right. Halloween cruises for the spooky-season crowd, Santa Cruises in December, and evening music cruises through the summer for a grown-up outing once the kids are in bed. Wroxham is easy enough to reach without a car as well, with buses running straight from Norwich city centre to a stop opposite the boat yard.
Opening hours shift with the seasons, running 8.30am to 5pm through the spring and summer months, dropping back to 8am to 4pm in the colder months, and closing altogether at weekends from November through to March. That's worth knowing if you're planning a winter visit, as a weekday trip is your only option then.
Parking on site is pay and display at £1.30 an hour, with a slightly higher £2 charge for evening charters after 6pm, and there's a free coach park if you're arriving as a group. The site is wheelchair accessible, which is handy given how much of a boat trip is just getting on and off safely.

Can we hire our own boat instead of joining a cruise?
Yes, day boat hire is on offer if you'd rather explore the Broads at your own pace.
What is there for wildlife?
The river cruises are geared around spotting wildlife along the Broads as you go.
Is it open all year round?
It runs daily through spring and summer, but shuts at weekends from November to March, so a winter trip needs to be on a weekday.

Santa Cruises run in December, alongside the usual river trips.
