What it’s like

Rides, a ghost train and a proper pantomime under one roof, paid for with tokens rather than cash in hand.

This is a small funfair crossed with a theatre, and the token system is the first thing to get your head round. Tokens are £1.20 each or £10 for a bundle of ten, and they cover the rides: dodgems, a traditional carousel, a ghost train, a giant slide and a horse ride, plus junior driving bikes and cars and kiddie rides like the Play Bus and Bob the Builder for the smaller ones. Buy the bundle if you can, since one-off rides on single tokens add up fast once you've got two kids wanting a go on everything.

The minimum age listed is 3, and the mix of gentle kiddie rides alongside the bigger stuff like dodgems and the ghost train means it stretches from toddlers who want the Play Bus up to older kids who'll head straight for the giant slide. There's a target shooting game too, which is the sort of thing that eats tokens quietly while you're not looking.

The pantomime is the other half of the visit. Beauty and The Beast tickets are £14 for a child, and there's a Santa Meet and Greet at £12.50 if you're going over the festive period. Worth building the day around the show time rather than treating it as an add-on, since it's the bit that needs proper seats and a set start.

Food ranges from snacks to full meals across several outlets on site, so you're not stuck bringing sandwiches or leaving to find lunch elsewhere.
