What it’s like

A timed tour round an Elizabethan mansion from 1583, a thousand-year-old yew tree outside, and a farm shop and countryside museum to wander after.

The house itself is the reason to come. Breamore House was finished in 1583 and the tours take you through it at set times, so the day has a bit of structure built in rather than just wandering room to room whenever you fancy. Outside there's parkland to walk off any restlessness before or after, plus a yew tree the site says is a thousand years old, which is a strange thing to stand under with a child who's just about grasping how long a hundred years is, let alone ten of them.

The Countryside Museum and Farm Shop run alongside the house, open from 11am to 4pm, and they're worth building the visit around if the tour times don't quite line up with when you arrive. It's a gentler stop than the house tour, more browsing than guiding, and it gives younger children somewhere to potter while the adults take turns looking properly.

House and garden tours go at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm, so if you're aiming for a specific slot it pays to turn up with enough time to have a coffee first rather than arriving at ten to and rushing. The café runs from 10am to 4pm, which covers you for that gap nicely and means you're not stuck watching the clock.

There's no obvious age steer from the site, so this reads as one for children old enough to sit through a guided house tour without too much fidgeting, with the grounds and museum there to fill in either side for anyone younger who needs to move about more.

Plan your visit

What time are the house tours?

2pm, 3pm and 4pm. The Farm Shop and Countryside Museum are open from 11am if you get there earlier.

Do we need to book ahead?

There's no booking link listed, so it looks like you can just turn up for a tour slot.

Is there somewhere to eat?

The café runs from 10am to 4pm, so there's time for a coffee before or after the tour.

Is it suitable for a toddler?

There's no age guide given, but a guided house tour tends to suit children old enough to sit and listen. The grounds and museum give younger ones somewhere to potter instead.
