What it’s like

A walk-in café with a proper kids' menu, free babyccinos and a kids' afternoon tea if you book ahead.

This is a café first, and it shows: breakfast, brunch, lunch and cakes are all on the go from open to close, so nobody's stuck waiting for the "right" menu to kick in. There's a kids' menu for the fussy ones and babyccinos on the house for the smallest customers, which is a nice touch when you've got a toddler grizzling while you're trying to actually finish a coffee.

The afternoon tea is the bit worth planning around. There's a version made just for kids, with sandwiches, cakes and scones, but you need to give them 48 hours' notice, so it's not a spontaneous Tuesday treat. Walk-ins are fine for everything else, no booking needed, which takes the pressure off if plans change last minute.

Step-free access and toilets are listed, and dogs are welcome as long as paws stay on the floor. There's outdoor play too, useful if the little ones need somewhere to potter about while the grown-ups linger over a pot of tea. It opens a touch later on weekends, 8.30 on Saturday and 9 on Sunday, but closes at 4pm every day, so this is more a morning-into-early-afternoon plan than a leisurely all-day one.

Given it's free to get in and you're only paying for what you eat, it works well as a low-stakes stop rather than a big day out. Groups of six or more need to book ahead, which is worth remembering if it's a birthday gathering rather than just you and the kids.

Plan your visit

Do we need to book?

No, walk-ins are welcome. The exception is afternoon tea, which needs 48 hours' notice, and groups of six or more.

Is there a kids' menu?

There's a dedicated kids' menu, plus a kids' version of the afternoon tea if you book ahead.

What time does it open and close?

8am to 4pm on weekdays, 8.30am to 4pm on Saturday, and 9am to 4pm on Sunday. It's a morning and early afternoon spot rather than an evening one.

How much does it cost?

Entry is free, you just pay for food and drink. Afternoon tea is the one thing that needs booking in advance.

Can we bring the dog?

Dogs are welcome in the café, just keep them on the floor rather than the furniture.

Is it buggy and wheelchair friendly?

Step-free access is listed, along with toilets on site, so it should work fine with a buggy.
