What it’s like
An outdoor real-ice rink with timed hour-long sessions, skate aids for wobbly toddlers, and a bar for the ones who'd rather watch.
Skating's the whole point here, and it's real ice, not the synthetic stuff, out in the open air. Kids from 2 upwards can have a go if they're steady on their feet and fit into the skates, and there are skate aids (sledges, basically) for toddlers to hold onto or sit on while you push them round. Sessions run on the hour, roughly nine of them a day from half ten in the morning through to half nine at night, and each one is a full hour on the ice once you're in.
The catch is the £2 booking fee tacked onto every online transaction, plus £1 for socks if you forget yours and £3 for gloves, which adds up if you turn up underprepared. A child ticket is £14, adults £16.50, and the Toddler Time bundle at £24.50 covers one adult, one child and a skate aid, which is the one to book if you've got a two or three-year-old who wants to try it properly rather than just watch. Skate aids only run £5 but they sell out fast and are first come first served, so book that alongside your ticket rather than hoping for the best on the day.
If skating isn't your thing, or one half of the family fancies a sit-down while the other laces up, the spectator area and Moguls Alpine Bar are free to access, with hot food and festive drinks and a viewing platform to watch the action. There's also glow golf with glow-in-the-dark balls if you fancy a break from the ice altogether. Turn up at least 30 minutes before your session to collect skates, because that bit always takes longer than you think.
It runs outdoors from late November to early January, and they're upfront that it operates in nearly all weather bar an actual blizzard. Rain apparently makes the ice better, which is one way of looking at it, but there are no refunds if you just don't fancy it once you see the forecast. Weekends sell out regularly, so this isn't one to leave until the morning of.

Plan your visit
How much does it cost?
£14 for a child, £16.50 for an adult, £15.50 concession. There's also a £2 booking fee per transaction online.
Do we need to book in advance?
Pre-booking is essential and sessions are timed to the hour. Weekends sell out regularly, so book ahead rather than turning up.
What age can kids start skating?
From age 2, as long as they're confident on their feet and fit into the skates. Skate aids help with balance for the younger ones.
What's a skate aid and do we need one?
It's a sledge-style aid a child can hold or sit on while being pushed, £5 per session. They sell out fast, so book one alongside your tickets if you think you'll need it.
What if it rains on the day?
The rink runs in nearly all weather except blizzards, and they reckon rain actually improves the ice. No refunds are given for bad weather, so dress for it.
How long is a session?
One hour on the ice. Arrive at least 30 minutes early to collect your skates.
Is there anywhere to eat or sit if we're not skating?
Moguls Alpine Bar does festive drinks and hot food, and the spectator area is free to access without a skating ticket.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
Yes, wheelchair users are welcome to book any session, though electric wheelchairs may struggle a bit if it's raining.
Can we book for a group or party?
Groups of 10 or more get a 10% discount, and there are party packages covering skate, drink and food. Email them directly to sort the details.
Can I get a refund if I change my mind?
Refunds are offered, but you can amend your booking yourself up to 24 hours before your session.
