What it’s like

A long sandy beach with a play area alongside it, plus dog walking room and free entry.

The sand here runs for about 1.3km, which is plenty of room to spread a towel without sitting on top of the next family along. There's a children's play area right by the beach, so you've got somewhere to send them when they've had enough of digging holes or when the tide's not cooperating with the sandcastle plans.

It's free to get in and there's an on-site car park, which makes it an easy one to decide on without checking your bank balance first. Dogs are allowed too. Disabled toilets and disabled parking are on site, which is worth knowing if that's part of your planning.

One thing to watch: the car park shuts at 11pm and doesn't reopen until 5am. Otherwise it's straightforward, a proper stretch of sand with a play area next to it and nothing complicated to book or work around.
