Arnot Hill Park

What it’s like

Free park with a play area, skate park and an arts trail of over twenty carvings and mosaics to hunt down.

The play area and skate park are the obvious first stop, and it's free to get in. Once that's done there's a proper wander to be had: a tree trail through the older trees, and an arts trail with more than twenty wood carvings, murals, ceramic pieces and mosaics dotted about, made with local schools and community groups. It's the sort of thing that turns a quick play-area stop into a longer outing if you fancy hunting a few of them down.

There's also a flat, marked 1km route for walking, jogging or running, which is handy with a buggy or a scooter that needs pushing round in circles. A café on site covers coffee and something to eat, so you're not relying on snacks in the car.

Parking is split across two car parks. The main one is pay and display but gives two hours free, and you still need to display a ticket even for that. The second is short stay only, capped at an hour, and doesn't need a ticket at all. Several bus routes stop nearby too, including the NCTX 25, NCTX 53, NCTX 58 and the Calverton Connection, if you'd rather leave the car at home.
