Leeds has proper theatre pedigree, and Northern Ballet, about a kilometre from the centre, is the one to know. Story ballets like Robin Hood and Clara & The Nutcracker are the sort of thing that hooks children who claim they don't like theatre, and there's a cafe on site for the interval or the inevitable "can we get a drink" afterwards. If your kids fancy more than watching, Northern Ballet also runs workshops and classes, which suits older children who want to have a go themselves rather than just sit still. It's central enough for an easy after-school or weekend trip, no long drive involved.
