Dippy the life-size Diplodocus skeleton replica is on display daily at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum.
Dippy the Diplodocus is a life-size plaster-of-paris replica of a Diplodocus carnegii skeleton, gifted to the Natural History Museum by Andrew Carnegie on 12 May 1905. It was the first Diplodocus skeleton ever put on display anywhere in the world, later touring the UK in 2017, and has now arrived in Coventry to stay as dino-in-residence for three years. The animal it's modelled on lived in the Late Jurassic period, around 155 to 145 million years ago, grew to about 24-26 metres long and weighed up to around 15 tonnes. Dippy can be seen daily at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, included as part of general admission. Tickets can be booked in advance, and a limited number of walk-up tickets are also available each day.
