A play about a young gay relationship in 90s Britain and the impact of Section 28, staged by adult and youth performers.
What's Wrong With Angry? by Patrick Wilde is set in Basingstoke in the early 1990s, a time when mobile phones and the internet didn't exist, the age of consent for gay men was twenty-one, and Section 28 banned councils and schools from presenting homosexuality as a positive lifestyle. It follows a young gay relationship and the impact of that political and cultural climate on the people living through it. This production is a joint effort between Progress Theatre's adult company and Progress Youth Theatre, directed by Ali Carroll. The play was first performed by the Youth Theatre back in July 2012. Progress Theatre notes that some themes in the piece may be distressing, so those sensitive to depictions of homophobia and its consequences should check the venue's content warnings before booking.
