Money in a time of crisis

Free online exhibition from Manchester Museum exploring how money and crisis have shaped history.

This is a free online exhibition from Manchester Museum, available to browse anytime rather than visited in person. Created by historian Dr Stefano Locatelli with Bryan Sitch, Honorary Curator of Numismatics, it draws on the museum's numismatic collections to tell stories of how money has shaped people's lives at moments of crisis, from the Great Depression's effect on rural India to the rise of paper money in China and Sweden and questions about the future of digital payments and cryptocurrency. It suits anyone curious about history, economics or the museum's coin collections, and can be explored in your own time online rather than fitting into a visit schedule.
