UK premiere of Elena Langer's comic opera at the London Coliseum, recommended for ages 15+.
For one night only, English National Opera hosts a guest production by Nederlandse Reisopera and Phion Symphony Orchestra for the UK premiere of this comic opera by British-Russian composer Elena Langer. It's a black farce about fame, exploitation and media voyeurism, based on Nikolai Erdman's 1928 play The Suicide, and set in the chaotic new Russia of the 1990s. Directed by Sam Brown with conductor Adrian Kelly, the opera is sung in English with English surtitles projected above the stage. The show runs 2 hours 30 minutes with one interval. Recommended age guidance is 15+, as it contains themes of suicide, strong language and loud gun shots, and children under 5 are not allowed in the auditorium. Tickets start from £25, with discounted opera tickets for those aged 21-34 and free tickets for under-21s.
