Beginner-friendly winter tree identification session with an indoor intro followed by a guided woodland walk at Middle Spernal.

This workshop is a gentle introduction to spotting trees once the leaves have fallen. It starts indoors with a short talk covering the key features to look for in winter, such as buds, bark, twigs and overall tree shape, before heading outside for a guided walk through the woodland at Middle Spernal. Walking through young plantations and mature trees, you'll practise recognising broadleaf species without their leaves, building skills you can use on walks all year round. No prior knowledge is needed, making this suitable for complete beginners as well as those wanting to brush up on their tree spotting. It runs on Saturday 12th December from 10:00 to 12:00 at Heart of England Forest's Coxmere Wood, with booking required in advance.
