A free self-guided 50-minute night walk through Edinburgh's Old Town using a tablet or smartphone film and headphone soundtrack.
Night Walk for Edinburgh is a permanent self-guided art walk created by Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller, commissioned by the Fruitmarket. Download the free app and the 1Gb HD film over WiFi before setting off, bring working headphones, then start at the bottom of Advocate's Close on Cockburn Street, EH1 1ND. The 50-minute route weaves through the closes and backstreets around the Royal Mile and back to the start, blending game-playing, surreal poetry and a touch of murder mystery with layers of local history and memory. It's best experienced at dusk, so dress for the weather and terrain. If you can't get to Edinburgh or can't manage the walk itself, you can still download the film and watch it at home whenever suits. A guide with the list of performers is also available to download from the Fruitmarket website.
