Country Parks & Nature Reserves in Brighton

Two proper reserves to know about here, both free and both run by the Sussex Wildlife Trust. Out at Henfield, Woods Mill has a circular walk round a lake and ancient woodland, good for bluebells in spring and fungi come autumn, with picnic tables and toilets on site and a bus stop nearby if you don't fancy driving. A drive out to Seaford, Seaford Head gives you clifftop paths with sea views, grazing animals along the way and toilets too, and dogs are welcome on a lead. Woods Mill suits toddlers better, being flat and woodland rather than cliff edge, and it's easy to turn a short loop into a longer one if legs hold out. Seaford Head is the one for older kids who fancy proper views and a bit of birdwatching, though keep little ones close to the cliff path. Both are outdoor and free to enter, so the only cost is getting there.
