Forest School & Outdoor Learning in Southampton
If your child would rather be under a tree than at a desk, Southampton has two proper options. My Little Explorers Forest Nursery, out in Romsey, takes children from birth to five and runs its whole day outdoors, building dens, climbing trees and cooking on a campfire. In Southampton itself, Testwood Lakes Education Centre works with woodland, meadow and pond, and children hunt minibeasts, try fire lighting and spend time in a Bronze Age roundhouse. For a baby or toddler who needs daily outdoor time rather than the odd session, the Romsey nursery is the one built for that. Testwood Lakes suits school-age children better, with sessions from £5 for ages two to seventeen, and it has an accessible toilet, baby change, parking and picnic tables if you are bringing a group. Booking ahead is required there, and it is worth asking which session fits your child's age before you commit.
