What it’s like

The actual house where Newton watched an apple fall and split light with a prism, plus a hands-on science centre in the grounds.

This is Isaac Newton's childhood home, and the site leans into that hard. You can stand in the room where he used a prism to split sunlight, walk out to the orchard and see the apple tree that supposedly got him thinking about gravity, then head into the Science Discovery Centre for hands-on stuff that ties back to what he actually worked out. There's also a 40-minute pop-up planetarium show, which is the sort of thing that'll anchor the visit for a seven or eight-year-old who's just started asking why things fall down.

Ages 5 to 17 are what the pricing's built around, and that tracks. Under-5s go free, which is generous of them, but there isn't much here for a toddler to actually do beyond the garden and the tree. A family ticket for two adults and up to three kids is £37.50, or £22.50 if it's just one adult. National Trust members walk in free, and if you've got a family or joint membership you'll need to bring both cards.

The manor house itself only opens for tours in the morning (10 to 12:30, Monday, Thursday and Friday) then again 1 to 3 in the afternoon, so if you specifically want inside the house you need to time it around that, not the general 10 to 5 opening for the science centre and garden. Last entry to the house is 3pm, last entry to the rest of the site is 4pm. The grounds have gravel paths, slopes and a steep bit from the car park up to the house, and the corridors inside are narrow, so a big double buggy is going to be a faff. There's one coffee shop, Newton's Barn, for food, and parking's free and included in your entry.

Do we need to book ahead?

There's no booking link listed, so it looks like you turn up and pay on the day.

Is it any good for a toddler?

Not really the target age. Pricing starts at 5 and the manor house has narrow corridors and steps, though under-5s do get in free if you fancy the garden and the apple tree.

What are the opening hours?

Is there parking?

Yes, free parking is included in your entry fee. There's blue badge parking close to the main entrance too, but general parking is limited.

What if someone needs a wheelchair?

There's one wheelchair available but you need to book it in advance by phone or email. If nobody's booked it that day it's first-come, first-served.
