Tobacco Factory Cafe Bar
WHERE
Bristol
What it’s like
A café bar with a proper vegetarian menu, a Sunday market on the doorstep, and free family activity sheets to keep kids busy at the table.
This one's less about a big day out and more about somewhere to land. Kids are welcome in the café bar itself right up until 9pm, though the stage area and the Snug are off limits, so it's worth knowing which bit you've wandered into before you order. Each month there's a free activity sheet designed by a local illustrator, which is a nice touch for a café and buys you a good twenty minutes if your kid's the sort who needs a pencil in hand before their food arrives.
Sundays are the one to plan around. The Sunday Market runs 10am to 2.30pm right outside, with food and drink traders to wander round before or after you eat, and it turns an ordinary brunch stop into more of an outing. Brunch itself runs to midday on Sundays, or 12 to 3pm the rest of the week, so if you fancy a late lie-in and a late breakfast, Sunday's the day it won't work.
The food is a daily vegetarian menu using locally sourced ingredients, plus proper coffee and a decent drinks list for the grown-ups, including craft beers and organic soft drinks. High chairs and baby changing are both there, and the building's fully wheelchair accessible from front and back with disabled toilets on every floor.
There's no set visit length here, it's as flexible as any café, but it's worth remembering the 9pm cut off for kids if you're planning a longer evening out.
