Bristol
What it’s like
A late-teens-and-up bar with free DJ nights, comedy and live music, though prices and running times aren't given upfront.
This is a bar for older teenagers rather than a family day out, so think comedy nights and live music rather than anything with a soft play mat in sight. Friday and Saturday nights are DJ events with free entry, and other events through the week cover comedy and live music. If it's a teenager keen on stand-up or a gig atmosphere rather than younger children you're planning around, this is the sort of place to have on the radar.
You don't need to book, walk-ups are always welcome. If you'd rather sort it in advance, you can book up to 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays, or drop them an email any other time. Most events are free entry, though some in room 2 are ticketed, and the bar itself stays open to everyone regardless. Drinks-wise it's proper grown-up stuff, local Bristol beers, ciders, cocktails and spirits, with mocktails for anyone not drinking, but there's nothing here about food, so this reads as a drinks-and-a-gig venue rather than somewhere to feed the kids.
The building's old and it shows in the accessibility. The main entrance is at ground level, which is something, but the toilets aren't accessible and there are steps into room 2 with no room for a ramp at the right gradient. If you need access sorted for a particular event, they say they can arrange access to a toilet at another business nearby and work something out, which is a decent gesture but means you'd need to get in touch ahead of time rather than just turning up and hoping.
It's closed Monday and Tuesday, and hours are limited generally, so this isn't a drop-in-anytime spot. Given the DJ nights, comedy and drinks focus, it's built for an evening out with older teens rather than a full afternoon with the family.
