What it’s like

Treetop walkways over snow leopards and tigers, a 3D maze and a pyramid slide, near Great Yarmouth.

The walkways are the thing here. You go up onto wooden platforms level with the tiger and gibbon enclosures, which beats looking down into a pit from a fence. Snow leopards get the same treatment, and there's a proper run of walk-through habitats too, tropical houses, the Cats Cloisters, aviaries and waterfowl, so you're not just doing one big loop past cages.

Kids get a 3D Adventure Maze, a pyramid slide and tree ropes to work through between animal stops, and keeper talks give you a reason to be in a particular spot at a particular time. Leopards go at 12.30, monkeys at 2pm, tigers vary so you'd check on the day if that one matters to you. With a minimum age of 4 listed, this reads as one for kids old enough to walk the routes and actually watch a talk rather than toddle past it.

Ticket prices are steep at the gate, £19.95 for an adult and £15.95 for a child, but booking online in advance brings that down to £17 and £13.50, and under-4s go free. It's not essential to book but they're upfront that it gets you the better price and shorter queues. Spring and summer you've got till 5pm with last entry at 4, winter closes an hour earlier both ways.

The café does jacket potatoes, sandwiches, sausage rolls and ice cream, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options covered, and picnics are allowed if you'd rather bring your own. Most paths and walkways are wheelchair and pushchair-friendly, including the wooden walkways up to the tiger and gibbon platforms, with ramps into the café and shop.
