What it’s like
A free outdoor playground with equipment built to challenge kids from toddler age right up to the teenage bit.
This is the playground attached to the Discovery Centre, and it's outdoor, free to use and built with a bit more ambition than your average park. The equipment's described as challenging and stimulating, so don't expect the standard slide-and-swing set, there's stuff here meant to make kids think as well as climb.
It covers a decent age range too. You've got younger kids from about two able to join in, but there's also teenage equipment, which is the bit that's easy to forget playgrounds need. Most parks tip out an eight-year-old and leave them nowhere to go; this one's clearly tried to keep the older ones interested as well.
Because it's free, there's no booking to sort and no ticket to buy before you turn up. That makes it an easy add-on if you're already at the Discovery Centre for something else, or a straightforward stop on its own if the weather's decent. It's outdoor play, so a dry day makes the whole thing a lot more appealing.
