What it’s like

Free to see, outdoors and open all hours: a 130 year old lighthouse optic sitting right on the Titanic Walkway.

This is a proper piece of engineering to walk up to rather than a tank of fish, which might catch you out if you're expecting the usual aquarium fare. The Great Light is a genuine lighthouse optic, 130 years old, planted along the Titanic Walkway so you come across it as part of a longer stroll rather than as a ticketed stop in its own right.

There's no entry fee and no set hours, it's there to look at any time, day or night, which makes it an easy add-on if you're already down at Titanic Belfast or the SSE Arena and have twenty minutes spare. Kids who like big machinery or anything that lights up ships will get more out of it than toddlers who just want to run at it, since it's really a look-and-read stop on a walk rather than something to climb on or touch.

Getting there on foot is straightforward if you fancy the walk along the river, about 1.8 miles from the city centre over the Lagan bridges, or a fifteen minute stroll from Titanic Quarter Halt station if you're coming by train. If you'd rather drive, there's parking on Queen's Road itself plus the Titanic Belfast and SSE Arena car parks nearby, and accessible parking is within 50 metres with the site itself fully wheelchair friendly.

Because it's free and outdoors with no booking needed, it slots in well either side of a bigger Titanic Quarter day rather than being the main event. Give it ten or fifteen minutes on its own, longer if you stop to read the maritime heritage information properly.
