What it’s like
A weekly singing session for adults and teenagers (11-18 with a parent), learning pop, rock and musical theatre songs in four-part harmony.
This is an adult choir, though it opens its doors to 11 to 18 year olds too, as long as a parent or guardian is there with them and the choir leader is happy to have them. There's no audition and nobody checks if you can read music. You turn up, you sing pop, rock and musical theatre arrangements in four-part harmony, and some of what you learn ends up performed at charity fundraisers and gigs.
A session runs about 90 minutes, which feels about right for building a song rather than just warming up and going home. You can pay as you go at £7.50 a session if you want to try it without commitment, or join properly for £20 a month during term time (36 weeks) or £26 a month for the full 50-week year. Students and armed forces get 20% off, and if you've got a couple of family members joining together the second membership is half price, so it's worth going as a pair if that applies to you.
The one faff worth knowing about upfront is the cancellation policy: once you're a member you need to give 30 days notice to leave, and refunds for missed sessions are only offered in exceptional circumstances. On the plus side, membership isn't tied to one choir night. If you can't make your usual session, you can go to any other ShowChoir session that week instead, or even go to more than one if you fancy it, you just need to email ahead so the choir leader knows to expect you.
There's a free taster session to start with. If you decide it's for you, you get an email afterwards on how to sign up properly, either through your online account or the members' shop.

How much does it cost?
£7.50 a session if you pay as you go, or £20 a month for term time membership and £26 a month for the full year. Students and armed forces get 20% off, and a second family member joining gets 50% off their membership.
Do I need to audition or read music first?
No auditions and no need to read music. They just ask that you turn up enthusiastic and enjoy singing.
Can teenagers join?
11 to 18 year olds can join, but they need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times, and it's ultimately up to the choir leader on the day.
How do I try it before committing?
There's a free taster session you register for first. After that they email you with how to join properly if you want to continue.
What happens if I miss my usual session?
You can go to any other ShowChoir session as a replacement, or attend extra ones too, as long as you email the office first so the choir leader expects you.
