What it’s like

Coached fishing for kids on a set of lakes near Aldermaston, with day, night and 24-hour tickets if you fancy sticking it out.

This is a proper working fishery rather than a splash-about, and the coaching is the whole point. Kids get shown how to set up, bait a hook and actually land something, with games worked in so it doesn't turn into an hour of staring at a float. Landing that first fish is the bit that sticks, by the sound of it, and having a coach there to make it happen rather than you fumbling with a tackle box is worth the ticket price on its own.

A day ticket with two rods is £15 for an adult, £10 concession, and if you're keen enough to fish through the night that's £20, or £26 for a full 24 hours. None of that includes food, there's no catering on site, so pack what you need before you set off. Opening hours run 7am to 7pm March to October and 7am to 4pm the rest of the year, and if you're coming outside those windows you'll need a gate code sorted through booking first.

Birthday parties get their own two-hour coached session, up to 20 children, with games built in and a professional coach running things. You bring your own food and cake, but they'll sort a gazebo and power for you, which takes the edge off organising a party outdoors in an English autumn.

Booking's required rather than a nice-to-have here, so get that sorted ahead of turning up, especially if you want a specific slot or you're planning a night session.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

A day ticket with two rods is £15 for an adult or £10 concession. Night fishing is £20 and a full 24 hours is £26.

Do we need to book ahead?

Booking's required here, not optional. It's how you get access outside normal hours too, since that needs a gate code.

What are the opening hours?

7am to 7pm from March to October, and 7am to 4pm through the winter months.

Can we bring food?

You'll need to. There's no catering on site, so pack your own food and drinks for the day.

Do you run birthday parties?

Fishing parties for up to 20 children get two hours of coaching and games with a professional coach. Bring your own food and cake, and they'll provide a gazebo and power.

Is there proper coaching for a first-timer?

That's the main draw here. There's dedicated coaching built into a visit, aimed at getting kids to actually catch something rather than just holding a rod.
