What it’s like

An arthouse and independent cinema screening a proper mix of films, with a bar for a glass of wine before or after.

This is a cinema for people who want something other than the multiplex line-up, with a bar attached so the trip doubles as an evening out. Tickets run from £6 up to £13.50 for premium seats, and there's a family ticket at £26.50 for four, which works out kinder than paying full adult price all round. Under-26s get in for £6 through the LUMI ticket, and there's a claimant rate of £6.20 for anyone on universal credit, PIP or Carer's Allowance, no proof needed on the door.

Kids under 14 pay £6.70, and the site is clear that under-18s are welcome generally, though individual films carry their usual BBFC age ratings and you might get asked for ID if you look under 15 or 18. Booking online adds £1 a ticket, capped at £3 a transaction, so a big group is better off buying at the Box Office in person, or getting in touch directly for group rates over 10 people.

It's card only throughout, cinema and bar both, so leave the cash at home. Parking on weekdays is limited until 4.30pm, after which it's free along University Square and at the McClay Library car park, and free all weekend too, which makes an evening or Saturday screening the easier option if you're driving.

Wheelchair access is available, and CEA card holders get a free ticket for their carer. There's no cash-free workaround if you don't fancy tapping a card in public either, though a gift card bought online does the same job at the kiosk.

How much are tickets?

Adults are £10, children 14 and under are £6.70, and there's a family ticket for four at £26.50. Under-26s pay £6 with a LUMI ticket.

Do we need to book ahead?

You don't have to, you can buy in person at the Box Office. Booking online is easy too, but it adds £1 a ticket, capped at £3 for the whole transaction.

Can I pay with cash?

No, it's card only for both the cinema and the bar. If you'd rather not tap a card in front of people, you can buy a gift card online instead.

Is there parking nearby?

Parking along University Square and at the McClay Library car park is free from 4.30pm on weekdays and free all day at weekends. Weekday daytime parking is limited.

Are under-18s allowed in?

QFT is open to all ages. Individual films still carry their BBFC age rating, so you might be asked for ID if a film is restricted.

What concessions are available?

There are discounted tickets for seniors (60+), claimants on universal credit, PIP or Carer's Allowance, and disabled visitors. CEA card holders also get a free ticket for their carer.

Can we get food or drink there?

Do you offer group bookings?

For groups over 10 you'd need to email the manager directly for a group discount. Group bookings are currently limited to household groups.

Is the cinema wheelchair accessible?

Wheelchair access is available throughout.
