What it’s like

A small free museum telling the history of Palestine through photographs, paintings and artefacts, upstairs in central Bristol.

This isn't a hands-on museum with buttons to press or trails to follow. It's a single space that lays out the history of Palestine through photographs and paintings, alongside artefacts collected over the years. There's a reference library too, stacked with books, journals and DVDs, plus information leaflets if you want to take something away and read it later.

It suits an older child who can sit with a history lesson rather than a toddler who needs things to touch. If you've got a ten-year-old doing anything on the Middle East at school, or one who just asks a lot of questions about the news, this could actually stick with them longer than a worksheet ever would.

It's open Saturdays and Sundays, 11am to 6pm, and free to get in, though they do welcome a donation on the way out. The catch is that the museum sits on the second floor with no lift, so it's stairs only, worth knowing if you've got a buggy or anyone who struggles with steps.

The centre also hosts talks, meetings and video conferences with people in Gaza and the West Bank. Weekday visits aren't part of the usual pattern, but they say they can sometimes open outside the weekend if you get in touch.
