Galleries & Exhibitions in Bristol

Bristol does small, free galleries rather than big ticketed blockbusters, and that suits a lot of families down to the ground. The Martin Parr Foundation, about two kilometres from the centre, puts on four photography shows a year with no ticket needed, plus a photobook collection to flick through. The Palestine Museum & Cultural Centre, a kilometre out, is a small free museum upstairs telling the history of Palestine through photographs, paintings and artefacts. The Art Warehouse, also a kilometre from the centre, has original works and limited edition prints to browse, open Wednesday to Sunday. Everything here is free, so the choice is really about pace and space. The Martin Parr Foundation has step free access, toilets and parking, handy if you are pushing a buggy or need a proper break partway round. The Palestine Museum suits older children who can read and ask questions, while The Art Warehouse is easy to dip into with younger ones who lose interest quickly. Room 212, a little further out at around three kilometres, is a smaller local gallery showing Bristol artists, worth a look if there is a community event like Mayfest on when you visit.
