What it’s like
A wander through old shop fronts, vintage tractors and thousands of everyday bygones under one roof.
This one's less a museum in the school-trip sense and more a hoard of the past you get to walk around. The site talks up historic shop and street displays packed with old stock and signage, plus a proper line-up of vintage tractors and farm kit that'll do well with a child who's into anything with an engine. It's the sort of collection you browse rather than rush, and with thousands of items on show, an hour can easily turn into two.
Ages 6 to 16 on the child ticket tells you this suits the slightly older end rather than a toddler group. There's not much here to physically do beyond look, spot and ask questions, so it works best for kids who like nosing through old stuff and don't need a slide or a soft play frame to stay interested.
It's £11 for an adult and £8 for a child, with carers and seniors at £10, so a family of four is looking at getting on for £40 before a cake in Acorns Café. Everything's indoors, which makes it a solid wet-weather pick, and the building's fully accessible if you're bringing a wheelchair or a buggy. Parking is free and on site, which takes one cost worry off the list.
Open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, with last entry at 3.30pm, so plan an early afternoon visit if you want a proper look before closing. It's shut on Sundays, Mondays and Bank Holidays, apart from Good Friday, so check your calendar before you set off on a bank holiday weekend.
