What it’s like

A one-day countryside show with livestock classes, circus acts, a dog show and a food hall to browse.

This is a proper old-fashioned agricultural show, the sort where you can watch livestock classes in the morning and a circus act in the afternoon without going anywhere. The Main Ring is where most of the day's action happens, and the Astral circus performances there are the bit worth timing your visit around if you want the kids sat still for twenty minutes. There's a Dog Show too, which is worth a look even if your own dog is just there on a lead getting jealous.

Away from the ring, the Horticulture Marquee has floral displays and handmade crafts, which is more of a wander-through than a hold-their-attention stop for younger kids, and the Food Hall sells local produce if you fancy picking up something for the drive home. It runs as one long show day, 8.30am to 5pm, so there's no need to rush; you can do the ring, the marquee and the food hall at whatever pace suits a three-year-old versus a ten-year-old.

Tickets sting a bit less if you book online. An adult is £12.50 online against £15 on the gate, and kids aged 3 to 15 are £4 online or £5 on the gate, with under-3s in free. That's a decent saving for booking ahead, and worth doing given the site says online booking is the way to guarantee entry rather than risk turning up on the day. Parking is free, which takes the edge off ticket prices, and dogs are welcome on a lead if you want to bring the family dog along for the Dog Show atmosphere.
