Fired Up Ceramics

What it’s like
Paint your own ceramics with proper tuition and a look round the kiln, plus a birthday party option.
The idea here is simple: you pick up a piece of ceramic, get shown how to paint it properly, then leave it behind to be fired. The site lists a kiln tour as part of the visit too, which is a nice bit of behind the scenes stuff for a kid who's just spent forty minutes deciding between three shades of blue.
Hobby classes run Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9:45 to 12:15, so this is more of a weekday, pre-school-run sort of activity than a weekend treat. It's £4 for a child and £5 for an adult to join in, but that's just the studio fee. Whatever piece you actually paint gets added on top, so a mug or an animal figure will bump the final bill up and it's easy to end up spending more than you planned.
You're allowed to bring your own snacks and drinks, which is worth knowing since there's nothing said about food being sold on site. Good if you want to make a picnic of it while everyone's paints dry.
If it's a birthday do you're after, parties start at £16 a child with a minimum of ten kids, plus £30 for the room for an hour and a half. That minimum number is the thing to plan around: it rules this out as a quiet, small-group party unless you're happy paying the room hire on top for fewer guests. There's also an adult version, a team building workshop at £20 a head for groups of fifteen or more, which includes the studio fee and an item worth up to £15.

Plan your visit
How much does it cost?
£4 for a child, £5 for an adult to join a hobby class, and that's before you've picked what to paint. The piece itself is extra on top of the studio fee.
When can we go for a hobby class?
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:45am to 12:15pm. That's the only session time listed, so it's a weekday morning activity rather than a weekend one.
Can we bring food?
Yes, you're welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks with you.
What do kids actually do there?
They paint a piece of ceramic with help from the studio, and get taken round to see the kiln where it all gets fired.
Can we book a birthday party?
Parties are £16 per child with a minimum of 10 children, plus £30 room hire for 1.5 hours. There's also a team building option for adults at £20 a head with a minimum of 15 people.
