What it’s like

Air rifle, pistol and archery ranges near Ashby-de-la-Zouch, with no minimum age on the airgun lanes.

This is a proper shooting range, not a soft-play version of one. Kids get on the air rifle and pistol lanes, which run out to 60 to 90 yards, or have a go at the Hunter Field Target course if they fancy something with a bit more walking involved. There's archery too, on 16 and 26 yard ranges, though that one's for over-12s only. For a first visit the Have a Go sessions are the easy option, everything's included and someone talks you through it.

The no minimum age on the airgun ranges is the surprise here, but don't read that as toddler-friendly in the soft-play sense. Any child under 18 needs an adult of 21 or over with them, and they've got to actually follow the safety instructions, not just stand there looking cute. A lane session is £10, and if you want to bring a second person along they'll need the £10 safety induction plus £3 to share the lane and the gun between them, which adds up faster than you'd think for a family outing.

Booking is compulsory here, no turning up on spec, and they mean it. Miss your slot or cancel with less than 24 hours' notice and you're still paying, so don't book a session for the same afternoon as a birthday party you might bail on. Sessions run two hours, and once you're on a range that's your range for the session, no wandering off to try the archery halfway through.

It's cash only on site, which catches people out, so sort that before you leave the house. Parking is free but it's a short walk to the ranges themselves, worth knowing if you've got kit or little legs in tow. Bring your own food and drink if you fancy a picnic afterwards, there are toilets on site, and the whole thing runs Wednesday to Sunday with longer hours on summer Thursdays and Saturdays.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

A lane session is £10. Bringing someone with you costs an extra £10 for their safety induction plus £3 to share the lane.

Do we need to book ahead?

Yes, every visit has to be booked in advance, there's no walking up on the day.

What happens if we cancel or don't show up?

You still pay. They need at least 24 hours' notice, so a late cancellation or a no-show gets charged the same as if you'd turned up.

Is there a minimum age?

No minimum age on the air rifle and pistol ranges, but archery is 12 and up. Anyone under 18 needs an adult of 21 or over with them.

How long is a session?

Two hours, and you stay on the range you booked for the whole time rather than swapping between activities.

Can more than two people share a lane?

A lane fits a maximum of two people sharing one gun. Any more and you need to book another lane.

Is there parking?

Free parking on site, though it's a short walk from the car park to the ranges.

Can we bring our own food?

Bring your own food and drinks along, just take your litter home with you at the end.

Do you take card payments?

It's cash only on site, so come prepared.

Can I bring an FAC air rifle?

Rifles have to be under 12 ft-lbs and pistols under 6 ft-lbs, so your own kit might not be allowed.
