Farndon Fields Farm Shop
WHERE
Market Harborough
What it’s like
Wander the rows and pick your own fruit and veg from over 40 varieties grown right there on the farm.
This is a proper pick-your-own set-up rather than a shop with a token patch out back. The site lists over 40 different varieties grown on the farm, so depending on when you turn up you could be filling a punnet with strawberries, digging up something more substantial, or just working your way along the rows to see what's ready. It's an easy one to build a morning around, no ticket, no session time, just wander and pick.
Opening hours are generous on weekdays, 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Saturday, dropping to 10am to 4pm on Sundays and bank holidays. That gives you room to turn up mid-morning without watching the clock, though a Sunday visit means a later start and an earlier finish than you might plan for.
There's a Farmer's Kitchen on site if picking works up an appetite, and if afternoon tea is the plan, it's served from 2pm onwards every day. Worth knowing they don't take table bookings there, you just pop by and get seated when there's space, which can mean a bit of a wait if you land at a busy time.
The whole site is step-free, with disabled parking bays and a disabled toilet in the car park, so a wheelchair or a buggy shouldn't cause any bother getting between the shop, the kitchen and the picking fields. One thing to flag if you're bringing the dog along: they're not allowed inside the farm shop or the Farmer's Kitchen, so it's a lead-and-wait job for whoever stays outside with them.
