What it’s like

Free rhyme times, story sessions and LEGO clubs for 5 to 11s, plus Hublet tablets and computers to book. Shut Tuesdays and Sundays.

Rhyme time and storytime are the reason to come with a small one: songs and rhymes for babies and toddlers, and interactive stories for pre-schoolers. Both are free, with a donations box, and you don't book, which takes the sting out of a session that might end in tears ten minutes in. LEGO workshops and clubs run for children aged 5 to 11, so if you've got a seven-year-old who builds, that's the one to aim for.

There are Hublet tablets, and you can book a computer or use the printer if you need to get something done while you're there. Printing runs from 20p for A4 black and white up to £1.20 for A3 colour. Computer use is free for two hours if you're a member, then charges kick in, so a long session at the keyboard isn't free after all.

Opening hours are the bit to plan around. Monday and Thursday 9.30am to 6pm, Wednesday and Friday 2pm to 6pm, Saturday 9.30am to 2pm. Closed Tuesdays, Sundays and every bank holiday. The Wednesday and Friday afternoon-only slots are a faff if you were hoping for a morning trip, and Saturday shuts at 2, which rules out an after-nap visit.

There's no car park of its own, just public parking nearby with disabled bays. The library is wheelchair accessible and they'll talk through access needs by email. Toilets on site, no café, so bring the snack you're willing to chase around the shelves.
