What it’s like
A guided tour round an Elizabethan manor house that TV fans will know as Poldark's Trenwith.
This is a 500-year-old manor house you go round on a guided tour, not a wander-round-yourself sort of place. It's the sort of history that comes with a story attached to every room, and the one your kids might actually clock is that it's Trenwith from Poldark, so if they've watched it with you there's a decent chance of a "wait, this is that house" moment.
Tours are booked in advance rather than turned up to, and it's not cheap for a family: £12 an adult, £6 a child if you're going as part of a group, or you can book the whole house out for a bespoke tour at £250. That £250 rate covers up to 21 people, so it starts to make sense if you're pulling together a few families or a proper group outing rather than just your own three.
Worth knowing before you commit: the site is upfront that touring slots are very limited because of ongoing filming, so this isn't one you can slot into a rainy afternoon on a whim. And there's no wheelchair access, with steps and uneven floors throughout, which also makes it a tricky one for buggies.
Given the tour format and the age of the building, this suits kids who can manage a longer guided walk round old rooms without much to actually touch or climb on. It's history you listen to rather than history you climb over.

Do we need to book ahead?
Yes, and the site is clear that tour slots are very limited because of filming commitments, so this needs planning rather than a spur of the moment visit.
Is it accessible with a wheelchair or buggy?
No, there's no wheelchair access and the house has steps and uneven floors throughout.
What will the kids actually see?
