What it’s like

A free-to-enter country park with a Winnie the Pooh trail, weekend adventure playground and a working farm to feed.

Getting in costs nothing, which is rare enough these days to mention twice. The draw for kids is the 100 Aker Wood walk, a Winnie the Pooh themed trail through the park, plus the animals on the farm side where you can book a petting session and get properly close to something with fur. At weekends the Adventure Playground opens up too, which is where you'll lose an hour if you've got an energetic seven-year-old who's already done the walk twice.

There's also a SEND Pavilion play facility built for children with additional needs, which isn't something every country park bothers with. Dogs are welcome on leads round most of the site but they're kept out of the Adventure Playground and other child play areas, so if you've brought the dog and the kids want the big playground, someone's doing a shift on a bench.

The car park fee is the bit that stings a little given entry itself is free: £4.50 on weekdays in term time, £5.50 at weekends and holidays, paid by card at the exit barrier. If you're planning to do the farm properly, a pre-booked farm pass gets you free parking too, which makes the maths better if you're coming more than once. Food-wise there's the Clock House Kiosk near the farm for ice creams and sandwiches, and The Warm Welcome Cafe in the Send Pavilion if you want a proper sit-down meal with indoor or outdoor seating.

Most of the park is card only, with cash taken just at the Farm Shop and the two catering spots, so it's worth having a card on you rather than relying on coins for the car park. BBQs aren't allowed except in a pre-booked private area, so a picnic rug is the easier option if you fancy eating outside.
