Open Days & Behind-the-Scenes in Nottingham
Open days and behind-the-scenes visits are thin on the ground in Nottingham right now, but the one place holding the fort does it properly. The National Justice Museum sits close to the centre, in an actual Georgian gaol with a Victorian courtroom, and rather than a static tour you get actors re-enacting real trials and executions on the day you visit. Tickets start from £11.50. It's indoors, so a wet forecast is no bother, and there's a cafe and gift shop if you want to make a morning of it. Booking is required, which is worth sorting before you set off rather than turning up on the off chance. There's a hearing loop and an accessible toilet on site, plus it's reachable by public transport if you'd rather not drive into town. Worth it if courtroom drama and grim history appeal more than a gentle wander.
