Great Northern 150
Courtesy of Whitehead Railway Museum

Steam-hauled mainline railtour marking 150 years of the Great Northern Railway, running Dublin to Dundalk and Drogheda.
This special railtour celebrates 150 years of the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) with steam locomotive No.171 "Slieve Gullion" hauling vintage carriages along the original route. Train 1 departs Dublin Connolly at 11:00, arrives Dundalk at 12:20, allowing a few hours to explore before the return departure at 16:30, arriving back in Dublin at 18:15. Train 2 runs from Dundalk to Drogheda, departing 13:25, arriving Drogheda 14:05, returning at 14:35 and arriving back in Dundalk at 15:10, so those living in Dundalk can take a shorter return trip, or combine both journeys for a full day out. On board there's a snack car serving hot and cold food throughout the day, plus a bar car with draught and craft beer. Space is limited, so parents are asked not to bring prams or buggies where possible, and the carriages, which date back nearly 60 years, are not wheelchair accessible. Groups should make one booking so seats can be allocated together. This date is currently sold out.
