A free guided tour of the Victorian kitchen garden with one of the site's own gardeners at The Workhouse and Infirmary.
Join a member of the skilled gardens team for a free tour of the kitchen garden at The Workhouse and Infirmary in Southwell. The garden's plots, orchards and pasture once grew food for the workhouse inmates, and the tour explores its history as both a place of hard labour and a source of food for the institution. It's a good way to get under the skin of the site beyond the main buildings, with a guide on hand to answer questions and point out what's growing. The tour runs on set dates between 7 and 21 October 2026, with sessions starting at 12:00 and lasting half an hour. Normal admission to The Workhouse and Infirmary applies, though National Trust members go free and children under 5 are free too. The property is open Wednesday to Sunday and there's no need to book, simply turn up on the day.
