A trail around The Workhouse and Infirmary uncovering long-lost Victorian slang words, for all ages.
This is a self-guided trail around The Workhouse and Infirmary in Southwell, where you hunt out forgotten Victorian slang words as you explore the site. It's included as part of a normal visit, so you simply turn up during opening hours and follow the trail around the historic buildings and grounds, learning the old "chuckaboo" words the workhouse inmates and staff might have used. It suits families exploring together, with children's trails being one of the regular activities the property offers. The property is open Wednesday to Sunday, with no booking needed, and entry is free for National Trust members and under-5s, with adult, child and family tickets available on the day. There's a café in the Infirmary and a second-hand bookshop on site if you want to make a longer visit of it.
