A day of apple-themed activities in the community orchard at Staveley nature reserve, with games, crafts and a baking contest.
Staveley Nature Reserve celebrates Apple Day in its community orchard, planted 15 years ago by the village and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. Drop in between 10am and 3pm for free orchard games and apple press demonstrations, plus a Masham Cider Press stall and a coffee truck. Paid extras on the day include seed bomb making at £2.50, a Beginners Apple Crochet session at £25 and a bird photography workshop at £55, so check what's running when you arrive as activities happen at different times through the day. There's also an apple pie baking competition judged by Yolk Farm, entries by email to kate.atkin@ywt.org.uk before 18th October. The event is outdoors in the orchard, where the ground is uneven and unsurfaced, so sturdy shoes are a good idea and it's worth dressing for the weather. Dogs are welcome on a lead. Onsite parking is limited, with disabled parking and accessible trails available, and there's room to park in the village if needed.
