A free evening of talks and panel discussion on refugee sea crossings, at the Queen's House in Greenwich.
This event brings together people with direct experience of migration by sea, artists who've depicted those journeys, and rescuers working on the water today. Speakers include Hasko Hasko, an artist from Aleppo who crossed the Mediterranean by lifeboat to reach Europe, illustrator Lindsay Pollock and Dr Benjamin Worku-Dix of PositiveNegatives, who created the comic "A Perilous Journey", and representatives from SOS MEDITERRANEE, a humanitarian organisation running search-and-rescue missions in the Central Mediterranean. The evening ties in with "Crossings", a new display on migration showing at the Queen's House. Doors open at 6pm with time to view the Crossings display and the SOS MEDITERRANEE stand until 6.30pm, before talks, a panel discussion and Q&A run from 6.30pm to 8pm. It takes place in the Van de Velde Studio in the Orangery, entered through the doors facing Greenwich Park. Tickets are free but the event is ticketed, so book ahead. This is a talk-based event aimed at adults rather than a family activity.
