A steam weekend at Papplewick Pumping Station with the Lancashire boilers fired up on 17 and 18 October 2026.

Papplewick Pumping Station holds steam events on eight weekends a year, when the Lancashire boilers are fired up and the original twin beam engines built by James Watt & Co can be seen running. The 1940s Steam Event takes place on 17th and 18th October 2026, from 10am to 4pm each day. On steam days, extra parts of the site open up that are closed on ordinary visiting days, including the ticket booth and start point for the Underground Reservoir Tours, the greenhouse and plant sales area, and the miniature steam railway. There's also a cafe and cafe kiosk on site, plus a children's play area and grounds to explore including the Cooling Pond and lawns.
