A family drama by Inua Ellams about Nigeria's creation, performed at Nottingham Playhouse, recommended for ages 14+.
Once Upon a Time in Sokoto tells the story of a friendship between an enslaved woman and her former master, set against the events leading to the creation of Nigeria. Written by Inua Ellams and presented by Fuel in association with Touring Together, it's a gripping family drama exploring differences in faith, culture and heritage as new enemies emerge. The show is recommended for ages 14 and over. Performances run Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 October 2026 at Nottingham Playhouse, with shows at 7.30pm on Thursday and Friday and 2.30pm on Saturday. Friday's performance is BSL interpreted and Saturday's is Audio Described. Standard ticket prices range from £17.50 to £26.50 on Thursday and £14.50 to £26.50 on Friday and Saturday, with member prices from £14.88 to £22.53; there's a £2.50 booking fee per order. All three performances are currently sold out, though a waiting list is available by calling the box office or emailing them directly.
