A talk from Maria Romanenko and Jez Myers on fleeing Ukraine as war broke out, recommended for ages 14+.
This is a talk given by Maria Romanenko and Jez Myers, sharing their real-life account of escaping Ukraine when war broke out. They describe what happened, what they'd do differently in hindsight, and moments of kindness they encountered along the way. The talk focuses on their personal experience rather than politics or military strategy, but does contain themes that some may find distressing, so it's recommended for ages 14 and over. Maria is a Ukrainian journalist and co-founder of All for Ukraine, formerly editor-in-chief of Hromadske International, while Jez is a community champion and co-founder of All for Ukraine who has advised local and national bodies on supporting displaced Ukrainians. The talk is free to attend but booking is required, and it takes place at North Lincolnshire Museum in Scunthorpe. The venue is wheelchair accessible and has provision for guide dogs and those with hearing or visual impairments.
