Free talk at Castlefield Hotel on how the Manchester Ship Canal was marketed to businesses and investors.

Historian Martin Dodge gives a talk exploring how the Manchester Ship Canal was promoted to businesses, investors and the wider public, looking at the campaigns and ambitions that helped establish it as a gateway to global trade and a symbol of Manchester's industrial success. The event is delivered in partnership with the Inland Waterways Association. It's open to everyone with an interest in local history, waterways and heritage, and is free to attend. The talk takes place at the Castlefield Hotel on Liverpool Road, Manchester, starting at 7.30pm; just ask at the bar where the canal event is being held.
