Oral History Walking Tour: Jewish Cheetham Hill

PRICE

Guided walking tour of Jewish Cheetham Hill, combining the streets with oral history recordings of people who lived and worked there.
Starting at Manchester Jewish Museum, this guided walking tour takes you through Cheetham Hill, once the heart of Jewish Manchester, with traces still visible in the building facades, shop signs and street names along Cheetham Hill Road. As you walk, guides play first-hand oral history recordings from people who lived, worked and worshipped in the area, covering synagogues, businesses, community organisations and places of recreation. The tour lasts around 1.5 hours and involves walking and standing throughout, with little or no seating on the route; folding stools are available on request. Some pavements are uneven and the route follows a busy main road, so there's traffic noise and moving vehicles nearby. Tickets include the walking tour, a hot drink from the museum café and 12 months' general admission to the museum from the date of purchase. Tickets cancelled within 24 hours of the tour are non-refundable, and the group sets off about 10-15 minutes after the 11am start, so arrive a little early.
